CEMEX secures aid for Florida non-profits to provide food, shelter, safety, education in communities affected by COVID-19

HOUSTON, TX — CEMEX USA announced that its philanthropic arm, the CEMEX Foundation, has awarded grants to more than 15 non-profit organizations across Florida with the funding expected to assist in providing food, housing, safety, education and other vital support to communities during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We are honored to be a part of the Florida community for decades and have lived through many crises, so we moved quickly to help those in need,” said CEMEX USA President Jaime Muguiro. “It was important to contribute to recovery efforts directly and support the great work of non-profit organizations across Florida and the country.”
CEMEX representatives have delivered grant checks on behalf of the CEMEX Foundation to help fund local efforts conducted by non-profit organizations in several communities including Miami, West Palm Beach, Tampa, Ft. Myers and Orlando.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has caused many of our neighbors and their families across Florida to face unforeseen hardships, and they need additional help,” said CEMEX USA Regional President—Florida Region Jeff Bobolts. “At CEMEX, we are proud to be able to present donations from the CEMEX Foundation to help our communities through the support of hard-working non-profit organizations that are providing critical assistance in what remains a challenging time.”

Among more than 15 contributions to individual non-profits, the CEMEX Foundation has awarded grants to the following organizations to support food security, shelter, health and safety and education in Florida:

Feeding South Florida, Inc. in Broward, Miami-Dade, Monroe and Palm Beach, FL
The grant helps to provide 70,000 meals to those experiencing food insecurity in South Florida. Feeding South Florida supports 25% of the food insecure population in the state of Florida. CEMEX’s partnership with Feeding South Florida began back in 2017 with CEMEX volunteers packing more than 15,700 pounds of food, equating to 17,445 meals.
Women in Distress of Broward County in Broward County, Florida
The donation allows therapists and counselors to use web-based platforms and telephone sessions to reach those caught in abusive situations who are seeking a sense of control and safety, which is an increased need during this difficult time.

LASER (Lake and Sumter Emergency Recovery, Inc.) in Lake County, FL
LASER is a not-for-profit long-term recovery organization that supports Lake County in times of need. Since the pandemic, it has worked to support local food banks in dire need and provide face masks to public-service agencies. The funds foster and supplement the needed materials for PPE and food distribution.

Harry Chapin Food Bank of Southwest Florida in Lee County and Collier County, FL
CEMEX’s donation provides the organization with the ability to continue distributing pre-packed, shelf stable food kits, which feed a family of four for five days.
Community Coordinated Care for Children in Orange County, Florida

The grant supports aid to the childcare resource and referral agency for the purchase of classroom cleaning supplies and PPE as it resumes 50 of its Head Start and Early Start programs.

Matthew’s Hope in West Orange County, Florida
The donation will help support the organization’s mission to help the homeless and provide funding for its mental and healthcare programs.

These grants are part of a nationwide program established by the CEMEX Foundation to support efforts of non-profit organizations in communities where CEMEX operates to combat the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
